Madekwe is from a multicultural family. Her birthplace was within South London. She has a father who is Nigerian and Swiss, while her mom is English. Her family was raised in a south London council estate, as a teenager, she 14, attended The Brit School. She attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London in which she earned an acting BA. In her time at the school, she performed in several stage productions, like King Henry V's princess Katherine as well as Wuthering Heights. Madekwe began her acting career through the movie Storm Damage. Since then, Madekwe has appeared in Teachers as well as Doctors. Madekwe's first film of debut was the Woody Allen 2007 movie Cassandra's Dream. She starred opposite Colin Farrell & Ewan MacGregor. The film's success led her to play Elisha in a one-off BBC Three drama West 10 LDN pilot. Later, she appeared in six episodes Trexx and Flipside as Ollie.
