Madekwe is from a multicultural family. Her birthplace was within South London. She has a father who is Nigerian and Swiss, while her mom is English. Her family was raised in a south London council estate, as a teenager, she 14, attended The Brit School. She attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London in which she earned an acting BA. In her time at the school, she performed in several stage productions, like King Henry V's princess Katherine as well as Wuthering Heights.
Madekwe began her acting career through the movie Storm Damage. Since then, Madekwe has appeared in Teachers as well as Doctors. Madekwe's first film of debut was the Woody Allen 2007 movie Cassandra's Dream. She starred opposite Colin Farrell & Ewan MacGregor. The film's success led her to play Elisha in a one-off BBC Three drama West 10 LDN pilot. Later, she appeared in six episodes Trexx and Flipside as Ollie. In 2008 she landed Bambi's character on ITV2 Drama Series Secret Diary of a Call Girl. She appeared in both series 2 and 3. Madekwe starred as the lead character on How to Lose Friends And Alienate Others, a comedy that was released in 2008. Her theatre credits are Little Sweet Thing or Roy Williams and Flight Path of David Watson.
Madekwe's US debut came in 2009 with the dramatic The Beautiful Life. The drama aired for just two episodes prior to being removed from The CW. In February, she was cast 2011, as Ashley Davenport on the ABC drama Revenge. The show premiered in May 2013 and it was revealed that Madekwe who had appeared on the show as a series regular for the two previous seasons, was to leave the series with a guest appearance on the premiere episode of the season's new episode. From 2014 until 2016, she starred in Salem as Tituba. Madekwe and her boyfriend of many years, Iddo Goldenberg, were wedding in June of 2012. The two have collaborated in the show Secret Diary of a Call Girl in the past, and Goldberg has also appeared alongside Madekwe on the TV show Salem.

Ashley Leggat grew up in Hamilton Ontario with an extended family. Her parents Roy and Patty and her brothers Brett, Todd, and Bram who were also present. Ashley's brothers, who are all athletic, played baseball during the summer and played hockey during winter. Ashley had never been able to walk. She was a dancer. At 2 and a 1/2 and a half, she was a part of Baby Ballet. Ashley began to be a dancer following this. Ashley was a professional dancer across all major divisions up until her graduation from high school. The competitions she participated in included ballet, tap, jazz and pointe, as well as acrobatics. The major dance festivals, like International Dance Challenge, Showstoppers 56-7-8 Showtime, Flash Dance, Dance, Dance, Dance, have awarded her the title "top Soloist".
